Moving my family across country took a lot of strategic planning, praying and courage. We set our eyes on North Carolina after we visited four other states in the country. When we arrived to Raleigh, we felt like home. We rented a house in a suburb so we could act like we lived here. It was the small things for us that stood out – how kind people were; how people waved to you as you drove down the streets of the neighborhood. Even while in line at Starbucks, I saw a University of Michigan pin on a guy’s bag ahead of me. I asked if he went there and then we had a full-on conversation. Two strangers! Just chatting away – – – and it was lovely. When I got back to the car, I told my husband what happened and I said, “That would have never happened back home.” Thus started our search for the right neighborhood.
We built a home in a town South of Raleigh and between April and September that year, we sold (practically) everything we had and chose to start fresh. In moving, I found my entire preferences changed. I now wanted light, bright, cool tones and I knew the life we were building in NC would be very different than the life we had in Michigan.
As a licensed, Independent Insurance Agent in North Carolina, I have built a business focused on the home-buying process. Eight out of ten of my customers are moving from another state to NC and must start over; just like we did. I get it. I feel it all over again as they tell me about packing up their house, deciding on movers, etc.
What makes me different as an Insurance Agent is my approach. I’m an old soul who focuses on serving my clients in the ways they need me. Far more often, it stretches out from Insurance and goes to local recommendations, restaurants they should try or gymnastics classes for their growing kids. Whatever it may be; I focus on the family inside of the home.
So, while it is the home buying process that brings us together – that’s just the beginning! I love celebrating the engagements that have happened in front of the home after closing, the babies that have been born after the family moved to NC, the children who laugh and run in our annual Monster Mash Dash event – every single part of it. I love it all.
Every time I speak to a mother who is planning for their move into their new home, I usually ask them, “What is the first BIG EVENT you’ll be celebrating there?” Sometimes it’s a birthday, holiday or could be a visit from family. Whatever it is – each mama has an image about what it’ll be like, and it is usually attached to a little trepidation. Moving is not easy. Putting yourself out there to meet people takes effort. But do keep this in mind: There will be people you meet here that will become framily (friends into family). Those people can’t wait to meet you. They came here looking to meet you, too.
If you’re in the process of buying a home in North Carolina, the best time for us to connect is after your offer has been accepted and your loan processer is asking for the multiple closing documents. Proof of Homeowners Insurance and all that they need for closing is what I specialize in. Plus, moving from state to state requires a little finesse in regard to how you properly and legally amend your insurance for your automobiles, etc.
I’m one call away. Can’t wait to hear about what the first event will be in your new home!!
